Middle schoolers line up during a monthly fire drill
The safety of Saint Paul Catholic Classical School students, faculty and staff is our top priority. Whether physical security, online safety or health and wellness, we have procedures designed to protect and comfort the children in our care. Today's threats to safety range from natural disasters to the recent pandemic. We want parents to feel confident in knowing that we consider all viable threats as we continually update protocols, train faculty and staff, and conduct safety drills with our student population.
Some of the safety measures we have in place include:
Controlled access to buildings during school hours
Security cameras used to monitor the school
Require faculty and staff to wear badges with picture IDs
Require students to wear uniforms
Physical Security As always, training both faculty and students how to behave during any threat, whether fire, weather or otherwise, is a crucial part of our safety program. We have a documented crisis management plan and a crisis management team, each with specific responsibilities to carry out during a crisis. We stage periodic drills throughout each month so that risks are mitigated in the case of a true threat.
Our campus is equipped with an alarm system and cameras throughout the building. External doors and internal classroom doors are kept locked at all times. Post-pandemic protocols for the upcoming school year will ensure that visitors to the school are contained to the area in which they are authorized to visit. We have a software and hardware system that will help us achieve this.
Online Safety As part of our new classical curriculum, technology is treated as a tool to learning, not as a subject to be learned. At SPCCS, students are not issued any electronic devices. Chromebooks are available to be checked out by students during the school day when suitable for presentations and projects. All of our Chromebooks are equipped with filtering software to eliminate any online danger to students.
Health and Wellness Our health clinic is headed by a medical professional who is Lifesaving and CPR Certified and has experience in an emergency room trauma environment. We have a number of lifesaving medical equipment on campus, including Epipens, an automated external defibrillator, a fingertip heartrate monitor, and blood sugar level testing unit.
