Attendance will be taken in every class every day. Late arrivals or early departures due to medical appointments must have a written note turned in at the office.
Regular attendance and punctuality are necessary for success in school. If a child is absent, please email the office and teacher to report the absence before 9:00 AM. The child will need a note from the parent that states the reason for the absence when the child returns to school. Medical documentation may be necessary, so please provide doctor's/dentist's notes as appropriate. Students must be present at school for a minimum of four hours for a day to count as a half-day of attendance. Please discuss the need for any prolonged absence with the teacher, the school nurse, and the principal.
Each student must attend classes for a minimum of 90% of the attendance days of a given school year in order to be promoted to the following grade level. Student absences are reported on all progress reports and on report cards. Additional written notification will be sent to parents/guardians of a student whose continued absences endanger the student's progress/promotion. If a student misses more than 18 days of a given school year, he/she may be required to repeat the grade, to attend summer school, or to arrange for summer tutoring in order to make up for the missed days to reach the 90 percent attendance requirement. A summer requirement would be completed at the parents’ expense and required documentation would need to be submitted prior to the beginning of the school year.
